Housing Crisis

Everyone deserves safe, stable housing

The Boston Globe has reported on the current crisis that is impacting our South Sudanese community: housing rental costs are skyrocketing and lower paid workers cannot afford the increases.

A worker making $30,000 with four children does not qualify for Emergency Housing. If you don’t qualify for Emergency Housing and can’t get an apartment because your credit score is low, then your options are to: live on the street, move to another state, or find a co-signer.

In April, SSEF established a Housing Fund to “back up” people who co-sign a lease for a South Sudanese family facing homelessness. SSEF will decrease the risk for people who are willing to lend their support to families in need. Contributions are welcome!
